Ceanothus Silver Surprise (‘Brass’) A variegated sport of ‘Yankee Point’, this great shrub reaches a similar height of 2 to 3’ feet, but a narrower width. Instead of 6’ to 8’ wide in the landscape, Silver Surprise stays a tidier 3’ to 4’ wide. It has striking creamy-white irregular variegation along the margins of the green glossy leaves and masses of pale blue flowers in late spring. Greater seasonal interest than a straight green variety, Silver Surprise has impulse appeal in a gallon. Use Silver Surprise in a patio container where it thrives in part shade or full sun. Great next to the house or in the perennial border, this plant has mass appeal. (Thus far in trials, some minor reversion has occurred, but no burning in coastal CA heat and full sun.)
