The show will take place January 8-9, 2012, in Kansas City, MO. Geoff will be speaking at the show on “Anticipating the Future”. Geoff has been involved in plant variety introduction for more than 20 years and is keenly aware that the business has become increasingly demanding and globally competitive. More than ever, breeders and plant introducers must be grounded in the demands of the market and be prepared for extensive pre-release proving and planning. http://www.nationalgreencentre.org

Abutilon Lucky Lantern™ Red

The "Lucky Lantern" Abutilon series are genetically dwarfed compact, rounded bushy abutilons which are excellent for summer containers both patio and hanging. They are all compatible in habit with large flower size. The breeding line is perennial with a longer growing period than the Bella seed-raised series, but still has a short growing cycle (4-6 months) compared with other perennials. The advantage of a vegetatively propagated Abutilon is the long blooming period summer – fall (near year round in California conditions) with a profusion of bells at all the times.

Lavender "Ruffles"

Bred for the most commercial characteristics: early flowering, compact habits, bright unusual duo-toned flower colors, the Australian breeding program behind it has spent years perfecting the group. The delicious selection of colors available in the “Ruffles” Series ranges from more traditional lilac colors through unusual duo tones. The aesthetic appeal of the “Ruffles” Series does not end there as the chunky bracts atop the flower heads are distinctively rippled along their margins to give the ruffled appearance for which they have been named. “Ruffles” will continue to spot flower after the main spring flush is over. Flowers are amongst the largest of any Spanish lavender on the market! Humidity-tolerant and dry-tolerant once established they make a particularly good choice for the water-wise gardener and require only minimal maintenance. With consistent pruning both types will continually re-bloom which makes them ideal for sales window targeted production. Tidy, compact, well-branched, and flower power make an excellent recipe for this series. Great as impulse color, may be forced, no vernalization required for bloom.
