The 30th IPM Essen exhibition in Germany was a great success, with 88 percent of the visitors expecting a positive economic trend in the horticulture sector. The show took place Jan 24-27, 2012 with the PlantHaven team hosting a booth at the American Pavilion. The show this year saw around 59.600 truly international visitors from across the globe including commercial growers, wholesalers and retailers. Nearly 60,000 specialists from more than 90 countries placed orders with 1,500 exhibitors from over 40 countries, showing that the economic state of the industry is far from gloomy. 36 percent of visitors came from abroad, showing a ten percent rise since previous years. Hosta 'Liberty' |
Our Hosta ‘Liberty’ specimens are growing beautifully and promise a fantastic display at Spring Trials. The thick, dark green leaves are bordered with wide, jetting, golden yellow margins which fade to creamy white in summer when lavender colored flowers emerge. Hosta ‘Liberty’ likes full shade and moist, well-drained soil. Approximately 1-2 feet tall and twice as wide, this Hosta has thicker, more substantial leaves then other mid-sized Hostas making it very resistant to slugs. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and is one of the most popular landscape plants. Hosta ‘Liberty’ has been named the American Hosta Growers Association 2012 “Hosta of the Year”. |

Good Eats! |
While in the UK, the PlantHaven team had the pleasure of dining at The George Inn, a 17th century family-owned freehouse in the scenic village of Croscombe, Somerset. The pub is directly on the A371, equidistant between the market town of Shepton Mallet and England's smallest city, Wells. There are many delightful walks from the pub, and dogs are welcome too. The renovated Old Beer Cellar provides the setting for a comfortable 30 seat restaurant. The staff insists on a total commitment to quality food prepared from the best local fresh ingredients cooked to order. All the food is home-made, including the puddings and luscious ice creams. They have won the Bath CAMRA Rural Pub of the Year 2011/12 for the second time.
Have a great February!
Kind regards
