Cimicifuga Hillside Black Beauty |
Changing the mood a little now and heading over to the dark and luscious side of things. We thought this month we’d feature Cimicifuga Hillside Black Beauty. This Treasure is renowned industry wide as the darkest Cimicifuga to date.
A true rock star for the shade garden, in spring the dark foliage erupts to form a wonderfully lacy, backdrop to the shade border, by later summer early fall Hillside Black Beauty is topped with contrasting pure white bottlebrush blooms.
The dark foliage makes a wonderful contrast when combined with variegated or chartreuse foliage plants. This really is a true rock star for all shade programs. A special thanks to the Team at Walters Gardens for the superb images here.

Euphorbia Ruby Glow |
Reporting from the PlantHaven trial garden this month; David Tristram’s Euphorbia amygdaloides Ruby Glow (‘WALEUPHGLO’) is looking just amazing.
The foliage has a truly beautiful ruby red tone – unique in the Euphorbia world where the dark purples are more the norm. When visiting Rogers Garden last Monday with Keith our Shrub Program Coordinator. It was super to see Ruby Glow on sale right next to Euphorbia amygdaloides ‘Purpurea’.
This is a real stand out crop which should be in every Euphorbia program.
