Spring Trials 2010 |
Our Red Carpet Debuts at Spring Trials 2010 proved to be a real hit. Cameras where busy flashing all week on the red carpet.
PlantHaven highlighted a range of distinctively different products. “No” run of the mill plants here!!!
The carpet was abuzz with talk about our new “Dark Thriller” - Cordyline Renegade. The outstanding new genetic dwarf Lucky Lantern Abutilons from Australia and the amazing hardiness of Euphorbia Ascot Rainbow – to name but a few of the new debuts.
Check out our website and new PlantHaven facebook page to see more detailed blogs images and videos from our event. |

Mixed Containers |
Our modern super sized mixed containers were a real hit on the Red Carpet. Michael, Robert and Andy “the muscle team” can testify to their un-believable empty weight of 165lbs per pot!!!
Carex Rekohu Sunrise was a real winner – spilling out and looking just superb. The tree everyone wanted to add to their garden was Styrax Fragrant Fountain, picture perfect for Spring Trials and our “Dark Thriller” - Cordyline Renegade just wowed everyone. |

Stories from the Red Carpet – Sedum Elise’s Gold |
One of our coolest people stories from the red carpet this year is Sedum Elsie’s Gold and the inspiration behind the plant name.
Elsie is 107 years old on July 2nd 2010. This is an amazing run! US trials have shown ‘Elsie’s Gold’ to have great garden performance with the variegated foliage being much more stable compared to other variegated sedums in commerce.
Elsie’s Gold was developed in New Zealand by Elsie’s grandson Robert. In spring, the new foliage is strongly toothed and the variegation has warm golden yellow tones on fresh silver green. Elsie’s Gold is topped in mid summer with soft pink flowerheads ageing to deep magenta. A compact grower just 12” x 12”
Top Tip: Bait early in spring to prevent any damage from pesky slugs and snails tempted to feast on the tasty new foliage. Produce for spring foliage sales or as a flowering mid summer to early fall line. Hardy to Zone 3 (-40°F or -40°C). |

Is it always sunny in Santa Barbara? |
Well…yes, most of the time it is simply wonderful. But very occasionally we get a serious down pour. Like the day after spring trials when we had a lovely big lorry (sorry truck) full of spring trial goodies to unload into our new PlantHaven trial garden.
Did we get wet? Well, take a look at the picture?? As they say – a picture says a thousand words, and yes we where all still genuinely smiling. |

Team in the Rain |
Until our next issue, have a great month, and we hope you are all having a busy and profitable spring.
Kind regards
Geoff, Maureen & The PlantHaven Team |
