Farwest New Variety Showcase |
We are pleased to announce that three PlantHaven varieties have been selected for the 2011 Farwest Show’s New Varieties Showcase. Be sure and try to make it to the show to see Cercis ‘Ruby Falls’, Dianthus ‘Sugar Plum’ and Hydrangea ‘Passion’ in all their full glory! The show runs Aug. 25-27 in Portland, Oregon.
This year the crops will be presented in a retail garden center setting to inspire retail professionals with retail promotional opportunities. Mystic Dahlias at Roger's Gardens |
Last week Robert and Jeanette had a wonderful visit at Roger’s Gardens, a premier retail garden center in Southern California. The place was overflowing with vivid displays of wonderful springtime blooms everywhere. Eager customers were buzzing around the Mystic Dahlias featured prominently in the landscape and in mixed containers inside. Grouped together they add a riot of color to garden borders, or as a star performer in pots and planters on the patio or deck. The swanky black foliage is what makes this series the industry winner. These are strong hardy plants with a profusion of blooms on strong stems, making consumer success a breeze! See the video here!

Featured Selection – Euphorbia ‘Glacier Blue’ |
Euphorbia ‘Glacier Blue’ has icy blue foliage that contrasts nicely with the delicate, creamy white margins and is impressive in all seasons. The flower bracts produced in spring echo the foliage coloration, giving additional seasonal interest. It makes a graceful textural element in containers, borders, rockeries. It has good vigor and a stronger habit than other variegated Euphorbia. The cool, icy blue colors are well suited for combining with other varieties to make attractive container gardens that provide interest throughout the year. Euphorbia ‘Glacier Blue’ makes a great specimen plant and an outstanding container. It is the perfect centerpiece for drought-tolerant mixed containers.

Good Eats ! |
Jeanette and Robert stumbled across “True Food Kitchen” while in southern California last week. Both came back raving about the delicious menu. For delicious, nutritious, and most of all tasty food – this has to be a stop the next time you are in LA. This Newport Beach eatery has only been open since August 2010 and the food is just sensational. For lunch Jeanette and Robert had house dry smoked salmon with Greek yogurt and pita chips, herb hummus with onion and feta and shrimp dumplings with shitake mushrooms, ginger and broccoli. All plates were $12 or less. They really recommend the natural refreshments, fresh ginger agave and soda was just thirst quenching, while their morning glory smoothies with apple juice, strawberry, coconut and banana hit just the right spot for those who like things a little more fruity.
True Food currently has four locations: two in Arizona and now two in California with the Santa Monica location having just opened. Check them out the next time you are in town – the food is amazing. Don’t forget to check out the awesome living walls in their patio eating area featuring drifts of Ajuga, Heuchera, and Carex – totally cool!! Excellent plants and excellent food all in one location – what more can we ask for?????
Until next month have a wonderful June.
Kind regards
