Echinacea 'Elton Knight'

Echinacea purpurea ‘Elton Knight’ was named for Thomas Andrew Knight who was one of the founding members of the Royal Horticultural Society and later president of the society. Knight inhabited the estate of Elton Hall, Shropshire, England where Anthony Brooks, the breeder, is head gardener. ‘Elton Knight’ has been awarded the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.

‘Elton Knight’ is an everyman’s Echinacea that is easy to grow with proven garden worthiness! It has a dramatically improved habit over most other purpurea, being compact and completely stake free! It is multi flowered per stem with brilliant magenta blooms up to 6 inches in diameter on erect stems with nondrooping petals. Flowers bloom from mid-summer through fall. Blooms are good for cutting and attractive to bees and butterflies. Great for planting in a moist but well-drained, sunny border. Like all coneflowers, this variety is very hardy and can cope will with adverse weather conditions too.
