Heuchera 'Crimson Curls'

Heuchera ‘Crimson Curls’ boasts many unique characteristics. It is a clump-forming perennial that grows to 18 inches tall and 15 inches wide. It is compact, long-blooming, with multiple uses in the perennial garden. Its rich dark foliage provides a striking backdrop for more colorful neighbors and its showy textured foliage makes it a striking specimen plant in its own right.

The distinctively curly foliage emerges as a brilliant burgundy color with crimson underside in spring, maturing to a deep violet then fading to grey-green for summer. From late spring through early summer, masses of tiny cream-colored bell-shaped blooms froth on burgundy stems rising 6-8 inches above the foliage.
These creamy white flower sprays are excellent as a cut flower. Deadheading spent panicles encourages rebloom into autumn. They are also attractive to hummingbirds.

Heuchera ‘Crimson Curls’ prefers organically rich, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade in hotter climates. The further north it is grown, the more sun it may require. It prefers consistent moisture and will be damaged if the ground dries out. In the coldest zones it will require mulching & will die back in winter. Though growth is slow, the clump may get overlarge in time and require division every two to four years.

Heuchera ‘Crimson Curls’ is ideal for the border, small-space plantings, and your best containers. It can be massed as a ground cover and is beautiful in rock gardens or open woodland gardens.
