Our choice for December’s Plant of the Month is Gaillardia ‘Fanfare’. Thought by some to be the most amazing Gaillardia in horticulture history, ‘Fanfare’ has consistently demonstrated its celebrity status in the garden. Many features set this plant apart from other Gaillardias. The color and shape of its petals are unique. The vibrant petals flare out like trumpets with a brilliant scarlet that is tipped with yellow.

This Gaillardia is extremely floriferous with masses of flowers blooming non-stop spring through fall. Unlike most Gaillardias, ‘Fanfare’ has a compact mounding habit 14” high by 18” wide that is neat and tidy. ‘Fanfare’ prefers a sunny location with well-draining soil, but once established it is extremely tolerant of many varying conditions. It is cold-hardy, drought-tolerant, and heat-tolerant and is hardy from Zones 5 to 9!

‘Fanfare’ is perfect for borders or containers and provides a stunning burst of color in the landscape. Flowers are excellent for cutting with nice long stems and have a long vase life.

Gaillardia ‘Fanfare’ was discovered in an English garden by horticulturist Richard Read in West Sussex, England. The plant was discovered as a sport of the hybrid cultivar G. x grandiflora 'Dazzler,' itself a recipient of the Award of Garden Merit.

"Unquestionably one of the most exciting perennial introductions of the decade!" — Wayside Director of Horticulture
