Spiraea Magic Carpet (‘Walbuma’) Spiraea Magic Carpet was selected for its dwarf, compact habit, and vibrant foliage colors, lasting through the season’s end. Magic Carpet is distinctive among other golden-leafed cultivars holding its yellow-gold color more firmly through maturity. This distinctive shrub delivers a stunning display of vibrantly-hued rich red new growth in the spring, changing to a range of chartreuse, yellow-gold, and orange in the summer to bronze, burgundy, and russet reds in the fall. The colors complement showy clusters of deep pink flowers in early summer. Magic Carpet is easy to grow, and thrives in well-drained, moist soil in a sunny spot but is also drought-tolerant. This deciduous, dense and compact shrub has a low spreading habit 18-24 inches tall and 2 feet wide that is ideal as a filler, groundcover, patio container plant, or rock garden specimen plant. Spireas are members of the Rose family and share the same toughness and tolerance of growing conditions. Magic Carpet is the recipient of The Royal Horticultural Society’s prestigious Award of Garden Merit in the UK, the “Oklahoma Proven” Award, and “Michigan Growers Choice” Award.
